A wide-open recreation lake in the oak foothills near Wheatland β boating, fishing, jet skiing, swimming, and lakeside camping on the Bear River.
Tucked into the rolling oak country east of Wheatland, Camp Far West Lake spreads across the Bear River foothills β miles of warm, open water framed by green hills and big California skies. Mornings are glassy and quiet; afternoons hum with ski boats and laughter; evenings fade into some of the best sunsets in the Sacramento Valley.
Whether you're launching a boat at dawn, casting for bass, carving the lake on a jet ski, or just claiming a shady spot to swim, there's room to spread out β then settle in for a night under the stars at one of two lakeside campgrounds.

Day-use is charged per vehicle at the gate β up to 6 people per vehicle. There's no charge to launch a boat or watercraft.
